Delivering a new and improved workplace experience for Johnson & Johnson that drives employee engagement and productivity

Johnson and Johnson (J&J) Johannesburg were looking to consolidate two of its operations, Medical Devices and Janssen onto one J&J campus and take the opportunity to introduce their Global Workplace Initiative programme. The organisations were located at two different premises, had diverse organisational cultures with established existing ways of working.

Our solutions were primarily leveraged from our People and Workplace Solutions team. Betapoint commenced with an in-depth engagement with Janssen leadership, and an analysis of the two organisational cultures through research and interviews, culminating in the establishment of the Change Ambassadors group. We designed a change enablement strategy to meet three broad objectives: co-location of the two teams; introduction and embedding of flexible worksettings and activity based working as part of the Global Workplace Initiative; driving the adoption of “One J&J” culture. The strategy was implemented through a number of interventions including: Appreciative Inquiry workshops; co-creation of key messaging, strong communication plan; intensive coaching; creation of longer-term collateral to support the organisation into the future. The move and co-location was successfully executed, with employees embracing the new ways of working and functioning as a cohesive ”One J&J”.
