UCT Property Studies Honours students get a glimpse into life at Betapoint

On the 28th of March, Betapoint was invited to present to the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Property Studies Honours class. Michael Griffiths, Director, and Ian Druce, Strategy Analyst, presented an overview of Betapoint and provided insights into a career in management consulting. Management consulting has not typically been a career avenue available to Property Studies students and as such, the emergence of Betapoint on the landscape, with its boutique entrepreneurial culture and innovative service offering, resonated strongly with those in attendance. The fact that the presentation was delivered by two UCT graduates from the same disciplines was an added bonus.

In introduction of Betapoint, Michael unpacked how the business improves the productivity of our clients’ real estate assets, workplace and people. A keen interest was shown by the students, some of whom engaged in conversation about various service offerings which are not typically covered during their degree, and for which they expressed interest in pursuing further.

The Sasol Place Project case study was a notable highlight of the day. The case study presentation was rich in analytical data and the tangible nature of the value delivered—such as energy savings and a broad range of financial and qualitative benefits for Sasol—provided an insight into this ground-breaking and award-winning project. It also showcased the breadth and complexity of the projects that Betapoint undertakes and the service offerings we provide, as well as the quality of our blue-chip clients.

Ian focused on providing insight into his working experiences at Betapoint, and highlighted the strong culture, emphasis on individual accountability and quality within an environment of strong teamwork and collaboration. Ian described the rewards of a steep learning curve and the rich opportunities for growth, made possible by an entrepreneurial and flat organisational structure.

The presentation was well-received and valuable insights were exchanged between the students and Betapoint’s team on the day. A number of the 2018 UCT class have already enquired about applying for Betapoint’s industry-leading and sought after 2019 Graduate Programme.
